UG Suspends Controversial Meal Plan Policy For Students

Authorities of the University of Ghana have announced suspension of its meal plan policy which was schedule to begin this academic year with the fresher men and women.
Mr. Enoch Amartey confirmed this decision on campus exclusive this morning.

The meal plan policy followed research findings of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research that revealed that food eaten by the students are prepared under unhygienic conditions. It sought to ensure students of the University were provided three square meals a day.

But the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) had fiercely opposed the plan since it first came out citing infrastructural challenges and untold financial burden on parents.

Earlier last month, it has been reported that all the Junior Common Rooms (JCRs) of the university and d the SRC had written to management of the University indicating their disinterest in the plan.
