Professor John Owusu Gyapong takes over from Professor Fred Newton Binka, who is the founding Vice Chancellor of the University. He led the University from 2012 to 2016.
Prior to his appointment on July 15 this year, Professor John Owusu Gyapong, was at the University of Ghana where he served as the Pro Vice-Chancellor, in charge of Research Innovation and Development.
Prof. Gyapong's vision for the University include facilitating a vibrant intellectual climate that stimulates innovation research and community engagement, promotion of multidisciplinary research in infectious diseases, chronic diseases, maternal and child health, policy and implementation research.
He said, his administration will also focus on promotion of integrated ICT-based teaching and learning through the development of e-learning platforms, stakeholder confidence building; and the continuation of implementation of plans to start new programmes in Pharmacy and Dentistry. He enumerated these visions in his induction speech.
Established in 2011 with only 450 students, University of Health and Allied Sciences now has over 5,000 students enrolled in various degree programmes.
